How Do I?

Register to vote? If you are a resident of Elephant Butte and wish to vote in the local, state and federal elections, you must register to vote with the County Clerk at 100 N Date, Truth or Consequences, NM 575-894-2840

Bid on a project? All major construction projects over $25,000 are competitive sealed bids. All projects of this nature are advertised a minimum of 10 days prior to bid opening in the local papers. The Albuquerque Journal and Las Cruces Sun News are usually contacted to run our advertisement to bid. Smaller projects less than $25,000 are awarded by competitive written or phone quotes. To get on the list of possible vendors to receive requests for quotes you must contact the City Manager and all efforts will be made to request quotes in your category.

Volunteer for service? Most City Committees are run by Volunteers. The Mayor appoints most positions to various committees and boards. The City usually runs an ad in the local paper whenever there is an opening on a committee seeking interest letters. You may at any time write a letter to the Mayor requesting to be considered for a position with any committee.

Run for mayor or council? Municipal elections are every 2 years on even numbered years. Applicants must be registered to vote in Elephant Butte and comply with election rules established by the Secretary of State. There are specific deadlines in order to be placed on the ballot and be eligible. It is advisable to contact the City Clerk to get the most up to date information and requirements

Apply for a job? Positions do become vacant from time to time. The City has a policy to accept applications only when jobs become available. Every job opening is posted in the local newspapers a minimum of 10 days prior to the closing date. Every position is ranked based upon the job description, with the best qualified applicants being interviewed. Job postings when they do come up will be posted on this site.

SUnsetThe City of Elephant Butte is located immediately west of Elephant Butte Lake State Park, New Mexico's largest lake. The area is in the northern edge of the Chihuahuan desert offering high desert climates with warm days, cool nights and very low humidity levels. A wonderful area for year round outdoor activities including golf and fishing.

In July 1998, the City of Elephant Butte became New Mexico's 101st incorporated community. For over a year preceding the incorporation, a group of aggressive, community-minded citizens completed population census and financial analysis, as well as a surveyed citizen attitudes toward incorporation before the actual vote was held. After incorporation, a solid Mayor and Council form of government has been established. There has been statewide recognition of the Rapid progress in establishing Elephant Butte as a major small community.
