Elephant Butte Utilities

"The City of Elephant Butte provides portions of the City with water and sewer. In general, the City provides water services to the residents in the North East portion of town. We also provide water services to the residents in the 'Hot Springs Landing' area. Portions of town are now served by the City sewer system. The City has spent nearly $10,000,000 mostly in grant and appropriation money to begin the process of connecting all residents to sewer. This will eliminate the need for septic tanks and the potential of ground water and surface water contamination. To date only about 30% of the town has been served with sewer with additional sewer being installed as funds become available. Please contact us to determine if your area is being served by the City. New Mexico Water Services Company serves the remainder of the City. Their phone number is 575-744-5974. Trash services are provided by New Mexico Waste Services at 1-877-287-7148. NM Gas (formerly PNM) provides natural gas - 575-894-2843. Electric Services is Sierra Electric CO-OP at 575-744-5231. Phone is provided by Windstream 1-877-520-5220. And Cable is provided by BAJA Broadband at 575-894-6636."

City of Elephant Butte Site

SUnsetThe City of Elephant Butte is located immediately west of Elephant Butte Lake State Park, New Mexico's largest lake. The area is in the northern edge of the Chihuahuan desert offering high desert climates with warm days, cool nights and very low humidity levels. A wonderful area for year round outdoor activities including golf and fishing.

In July 1998, the City of Elephant Butte became New Mexico's 101st incorporated community. For over a year preceding the incorporation, a group of aggressive, community-minded citizens completed population census and financial analysis, as well as a surveyed citizen attitudes toward incorporation before the actual vote was held. After incorporation, a solid Mayor and Council form of government has been established. There has been statewide recognition of the Rapid progress in establishing Elephant Butte as a major small community.
